The Luke Wenke Files

Obtained through New York State’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), the following records are from the Chautauqua County Jail in Mayville, New York, where Luke Wenke was detained on a federal probation violation charge from June 20th, 2023, to August 10th, 2023. The judge found him guilty and sentenced him to time served.

Just weeks earlier (and less than six weeks after his release from federal prison), Luke Wenke had been arrested for contacting the business partner of the Minnesota attorney he had served time for cyberstalking (referred to on this website as “Victim 1”). As a condition of his probation, Wenke was banned from contacting Victim 1, including via indirect and third-party means.

The decision to detain Luke Wenke came following a court hearing regarding the matter. Sadly, Wenke’s habit of contacting people who want to be left alone certainly didn’t stop there, leading to a second arrest just months later for additional probation violation charges.

As the records below show, Luke Wenke sent letters to multiple recipients during his brief stay at the Chautauqua County Jail. Three of those letters were addressed to his romantic obsession, Ryan’s mother, whose husband had obtained a state-issued order of protection against Luke Wenke. Wenke allegedly contacted the victim despite the federal judge’s orders to abide by all orders of protection and contact bans.

Wenke even admitted to writing letters to Ryan’s mother, stating in a letter to the federal court that he believed it was perfectly legal to send mail to the spouse of someone he’d been banned from contacting. Despite the evidence linking him to multiple contact ban and protective order violations between May and October of 2023, he was only convicted of two out of at least seven alleged probation violation charges.
