The following is a transcript from a court hearing after Luke Wenke was charged with violating his supervised release in May of 2023 (USA v. Luke Wenke, 1:22-cr-00035). The proceeding took place on June 23, 2023.
One thing I’ve said throughout this entire case is that stalkers don’t just stop. Yes, their behaviours and stalking methods vary. And while I’m no expert, stalkers don’t just turn their obsession off or suddenly gain control over it, at the flip of a switch. If they could (and were willing to), then stalking wouldn’t be such a massive and persistent problem.
At this juncture in Wenke’s case, I’m not sure if the people overseeing the matter truly grasped that Wenke wasn’t going to suddenly become a rule follower. Or naïvely believing that the looming threat of being sent back to prison would deter him from continuing to indulge in something that he literally lives for above all else.
As far as textbook stalkers go, none of these approaches typically work. Their insatiable need to follow, harass, intimidate, bother, and terrorise far outweighs their fear of going to jail or prison, especially when the court pampers and babies them while they squander chance after chance after chance after fucking chance to quit screwing up.
