Luke Wenke: Involuntary Commitment Proceedings

In February and April of 2025, the U.S. federal court in Buffalo, New York held hearings to determine whether Luke Wenke was suffering from a mental disease or defect warranting treatment “at a suitable facility.” The following documents pertain to the process and proceedings resulting in the judge’s decision to commit Wenke.

The first document (#192) is the defense’s post-hearing brief urging the judge not to commit Luke Wenke to involuntary treatment.

The second document (#193) is the U.S. Government’s (prosecution’s) post-hearing brief urging the judge to mandate Luke Wenke to inpatient mental health care.

The third document (#194) states the judge’s decision to commit Luke Wenke and explains his reasons for doing so.

The fourth set of documents (#202-1, #202-2) consists of two transcripts containing word-for-word accounts of two commitment proceedings against Luke Wenke that were held in 2025.
